AI Blocks

AI Block: Hours to High-Impact Calendar Event — what it is and how to use it in trading

Definition

Hours to High-Impact Event (calendar.hours_to_high_impact) is an AI block that returns the number of hours until the nearest high-impact economic event on the ForexFactory calendar.

How it works in the builder

A number operand, the value is in hours, >= 0. A stated v1 limitation: it is computed GLOBALLY across the whole market, not scoped to the strategy's own instrument's currency — the block doesn't "know" whether the nearest event is even relevant to the traded asset. Like the other AI blocks, it is read from a precomputed cache and always evaluates false in backtest.

What it looks like on the chart

Drawn as a calendar plate with a countdown caption (e.g. "4h") — a visual stand-in for an approaching-event reminder.

Typical use

Typical condition: calendar.hours_to_high_impact > 4 as a "safer to enter" filter, excluding entries shortly before major news. Available only in LIVE strategies and only on the Pro plan.

Common pitfalls

Because the calculation is global (not scoped to the instrument's currency), a high value doesn't guarantee there's no news relevant specifically to that asset — the counted event may belong to an unrelated currency pair, while a genuinely relevant event for the traded instrument isn't tracked separately.
